The Manchester office property consultancy GVA has announced that it is to sponsor an inaugural Open Photography Competition.

The Company has created the competition in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University to encourage and support the development of new photography talent in the North West.

Based upon the theme ‘Unseen: The Hidden Treasures of Manchester’, the project will see students moving beyond the obvious architectural structures of the Manchester skyline by encouraging them to investigate the ‘hidden gems’ in the City Centre of Manchester and the competition will see students studying Photography at The Manchester School of Art competing to be named GVA Student Photographer of the Year

The competition will see students subject to a two-stage selection process with GVA’s and MMU’s internal panel whittling down submissions from MA and BA(Hons) Photography students to a shortlist of 10. The 10 shortlisted images will be exhibited at GVA’s Northern Head Offices at Norfolk House during the voting period when clients will be encourage to vote for their favourite photograph.

Mark Rawstron, Head of Manchester, GVA said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Open Photography Competition with one of Manchester’s leading educational institutions. Throughout the competition, students will have the opportunity to engage with the private sector which will not only provide excellent contacts but will encourage the skills necessary to deal with commercial commissions once they graduate.
