Charity Super.Mkt, the UK’s first multi-charity fashion store, is set to make its Central Manchester debut when it opens its doors in Exchange Court at Manchester Arndale this July. The pop-up will run from 10th–12th July, bringing three days of curated second-hand fashion to one of the city’s most iconic retail destinations. The event marks a significant milestone for the concept – its first retail-centred pop-up in Central Manchester.
Shoppers can expect a vibrant, carefully curated edit of pre-loved clothing sourced from both national and local charities. From standout vintage pieces and coveted band tees to forgotten football tops, desirable denim, and everything in between. Participating charities include: The British Heart Foundation and the RSPCA.
Having previously wowed shoppers during a highly successful two-month residency at MediaCityUK in October 2023, Charity Super.Mkt arrives in the city centre riding a wave of momentum and long-awaited return. The MediaCityUK pop-up exceeded all expectations: more than 10,000 items were sold, over 3 tonnes of textile waste were diverted from landfill, more than 25 tonnes of CO₂ emissions were offset, and upwards of 4,500 cubic metres of water were saved.
Charity Super.Mkt is co-founded by Wayne Hemingway MBE, of HemingwayDesign and co-founder of British fashion brand Red or Dead, and Maria Chenoweth, CEO of sustainable clothing charity Traid. Together, they have created a destination that allows people to shop sustainably and with purpose – proving that doing good and dressing well are not mutually exclusive.
The Arndale pop-up carries a particular resonance for co-founder Wayne Hemingway MBE, whose connection to Manchester’s second-hand and fashion retail scene runs deep. Hemingway co-founded Red or Dead in 1982 alongside his wife Gerardine, some of the first outlets were in Afflecks Palace, The Royal Exchange and on King Street.
Red or Dead went on to shake up the British fashion industry with its anti-establishment approach to design and retail, winning the British Fashion Council’s Designer of the Year Award for three consecutive years, and planting firm roots in Manchester’s club culture  landscape throughout the 1980s and 90s.
Wayne Hemingway has long championed Manchester’s thriving second-hand and independent fashion culture, noting the city’s proud tradition of people dressing cool while doing it affordably. A spirit that has kept institutions like Afflecks and the Northern Quarter thriving for decades. Through Charity Super.Mkt, he continues to pioneer a new model of sustainable, purpose-driven retail for the 21st century.
Charity Super.Mkt will be open at the Arndale at the following times:
Friday 10th July [9am – 8pm]
Saturday 11th July [9am – 8pm]
Sunday 12th July [11:30am – 5:30pm]
