University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) and the National Football Museum have announced the launch of Football Through My Lens, a national photography competition inviting students aged 16-18 years old to capture what football means to them.
The competition aims to inspire young people across the UK to explore the emotional, cultural and community impact of football through photography, while also introducing them to creative and educational pathways within the football industry.
Open to students of all abilities, Football Through My Lens encourages participants to submit a single photograph that reflects their personal connection to the game; whether that’s grassroots football, matchday experiences, or the role football plays in their everyday lives.
Winning entries will be exhibited at the National Football Museum in Manchester as part of its public exhibition programme, offering students a unique opportunity to have their work displayed in a nationally recognised cultural institution.
Brendan Flood, Founder and Chairman, UCFB said:
“Football is a powerful force that brings people together and shapes communities. This competition is about giving young people a platform to tell their own stories and express what the game means to them, while also engaging them with future opportunities in sport and education.”
Gabrielle Heffernan, Creative Engagement Director, National Football Museum, said:
“Football is about so much more than the 90 minutes on the pitch. It’s the memories, rituals and communities that surround the game that make it so special. We’re delighted to be working with UCFB to give young people a platform to capture and celebrate those moments. By showcasing their work at the National Football Museum, we’re highlighting the importance of contemporary voices and ensuring that the story of football continues to evolve with each new generation.”
Participants can capture their image using any device, including smartphones, making the competition as accessible as possible. Submissions will be judged on their connection to the theme, creativity, and the strength of the story behind the image, rather than technical expertise.
In addition to having their work exhibited, winners will receive a range of prizes, including match tickets, technology, exclusive event invitations, and funding to support school sports programmes. The competition will also culminate in a special launch event at the National Football Museum, where winners and their families will be invited to celebrate their achievements.
