A campaign to keep Scotland in the 300 year old union came to Manchester’s Albert Square this morning.

Historian Dan Snow brought his Let’s Stay Together roadshow on first day of a national tour.

The campaign is urging local people around the country to make sure their voice is heard in the forthcoming referendum campaign and add their name to the Let’s Stay Together campaign that celebrities have backed in an open letter published yesterday.

Council Leader Richard Leese was amongst those adding his name to the petition.

Dan, who co-organised the letter with TV Historian Tom Holland, told About Manchester that the city is the first place that the campaign has come to after the launch in London because Manchester symbolizes what this country can achieve when people from different parts of the nation work together.

“They started businesses here, made innovations and led the world in science and industry and absolutely symbolizes what can happen when we all work together”

He added that the campaign wanted people in Manchester to tell Scotland that it is your choice, “but we absolutely want you to know that we want you to stay in our shared country.”

The campaign has brought together Oscar, Bafta, Emmy and Grammy winners, gold medal winning athletes and famous names from the arts, science and literature. Over thirty thousand people signed the petition on the opening day.
