A group of Bury residents are raising funds to send a Team GB Para Climber from Bury, who has cerebral palsy and is registered blind, to compete at the Para Climbing World Championships in Spain.

Reanne Racktoo who is nearly eighteen, is hoping to take part in the Climbing World Championships in Gijon Spain from the 8th-14th September.

She was born in Germany, an IVF twin born 12 weeks early weighing only 2lbs, had 3 massive brain bleeds, and at 6 days old the doctors advised her mother to turn off the life support keeping her alive, stating “she would have no quality of life she will never walk, talk, dress or feed herself, so it will be easier”

Her mother Amanda, who set up the campaign disagreed. “she was my baby and she was a fighter! And what a fight it has been! Almost 18 yrs later, she is a truly inspirational young woman who is a Team GB Paraclimber.

Amanda Racktoo, who set up the campaign for her daughter, is a divorced single mum with three children and two granddaughters. She is a regular fundraiser, previously helping raise £5,000 to get the GB Para Climbing Team to the World Climbing Championships in Paris.

She added

Reanne has progressed rapidly since her very first climb in November 2011, but until a sponsorship deal is found for Reanne I will be forced continue to fundraise for her competitions. She also starts a climbing coach apprenticeship in September, as she dreams of becoming the worlds first Visually Impaired Climbing Coach.”

The campaign has raised £50 of a target amount of £1,345, with less than four weeks to go to raise the remaining amount.

The funds raised will be used to pay for flights and accommodation for Reanne and Amanda to travel to the championships.

The event in the Austurian city of Dijon, will see one thousand athletes expected to join the thousands of fans who will flock to the event.
