The Prime Minister in this afternoon’s press conference told the nation that in just over two weeks there will be more Covid patients in intensive care in Greater Manchester than at the peak of the first wave.

He stressed that the situation in Greater Manchester is “grave and worsens with each passing day”.

Infection rates are creeping up, he said, and have increased to 224 per 100,000 for over 60s he said.

He urged local leaders to “engage constructively” adding,

“I cannot stress enough that time is of the essence, he said, and each day that passes means that more people will go to hospital, more will end up in intensive care and “tragically, more people will die”.

If an agreement cannot be reached he said I will need to intervene in order to protect Manchester’s hospitals and save the lives of Manchester’s residents”.
