A blue plaque has been unveiled in honour of Mary Worthington who donated the money in 1900 for the establishment of what became known as Worthington Park.

As well as establishing the park, after moving to Sale Old Hall in 1871, Mary Worthington was a founder and President of Sale and District Nursing Association. She supported the Sale Girls Training Home and Sale Girls High School and was also a benefactor of Old Hall School, the first Council school in the county of Cheshire.

Trafford Mayor Cllr Jane Brophy and pupils from Worthington Primary joined the Friends of Worthington Park to celebrate her lasting legacy.

Cllr Brophy said: “Worthington by name. Worthy by nature.”
