AWOL Studios are holding their annual Open Studios event this Friday.is one of the largest events on the Manchester Arts calendar.

Over 100 artists and creative businesses are exhibiting this and we are told that as previous events have included robots, flashing neon coffins, live graffiti work, choirs, a brew-off, its always worth a visit.

This year is the 9th event from one of the largest independent Studios in the UK, which was founded back in 2001 by Phil Walton to provide a few small studios for Artists in Manchester.

In 2007 Phil moved AWOL to Hope Mill, a Grade II* listed building in historic Ancoats, and after joining forces with business partner David French, embarked on an ambitious expansion programme.

AWOL Studios now has 84 studios and its own dedicated art gallery, spread over 4 floors and covering 26,000 sq ft at Hope Mill. It houses over 125 artists and associated creative businesses and organisations, and aims to become the foremost creative hub in the North West.
