Manchester’s Great Northern Warehouse is calling on Mancunians of all ages to create pictures and images illustrating positive messages to share online in the face of the Covid-19 crisis.
The Great Northern kick started its positive campaign a fortnight ago by commissioning local illustrator, spray-painter, glitter-ator and mural maker, MOZE (Becki Miller) to create and unveil a ‘This too shall pass’ mural on its Deansgate Terrace. Building on the great reaction to the mural, the Great Northern is now looking for more pieces of art which can be used to further generate and promote strong positive messages during this challenging time.
Everyone from Manchester’s most celebrated artists and famous people, to children and parents home-schooling or care home residents are being asked to put pen to paper and create their own pieces of art. The Great Northern will then share submissions on its website every day as an ongoing and ever-growing online exhibition.
Once the national lockdown is over, these will be curated into an physical exhibition in the Warehouse, with images also being sold to raise money to support Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund which is providing money to assist grassroots community groups across Greater Manchester that are responding to the impact of Covid-19 by helping those most affected.
Entries can be showcased via any artistic medium and can include hopes for the future, resilience in the face of the crisis or thank you-s for the amazing work of the region’s key workers, particularly the NHS.
Centre Director Mark Schofield said: “We’re proud of our home city’s resilience and community spirit during this troubling time for all and want to commemorate this by showcasing the city’s personality and perseverance. Mancunians are a creative and optimistic bunch by nature and we look forward to sharing the city’s creative messages far and wide to help keep hope alive as we stand together in the face of this crisis.”
