Fans of Twin Peaks will have the chance to indulge their love of the cult 1990s television series later this week when the University of Salford hosts a special discussion session at MediaCityUK.

‘An Evening with Twin Peaks’ will feature an airing of a recent BBC Radio 4 documentary on the TV series followed by a Q&A with the documentary’s presenter, Film 2015’s Danny Leigh, and Radio 4 producer Dave James.

Following the Q&A, film and screen studies academic Adrian Martin and audio-visual artist and critic Cristina Álvarez López will explore the distinct multi-media worlds of director David Lynch’s Twin Peaks saga and David Bowie’s Outside project, speculating on the affinities that unite them.

Marking what many see as the start of the high-production value television series, Twin Peaks has hugely influenced US TV drama productions ever since, including The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and House of Cards among many others.

The evening is part of a two-day international conference celebrating Twin Peaks’ 25thanniversary, covering themes such as TV fan cultures, the brilliance of David Lynch’s work and symbolism in the series.

Dr Kirsty Fairclough-Isaacs, Senior Lecturer in Media and Performance and organiser of the conference, said: “Twin Peaks was one of the very first cult TV shows and we wanted to do something fun and different to mark its 25th anniversary.

“An Evening with Twin Peaks is a great chance for fans of the show to find out more about the making of the BBC Radio 4 documentary from Danny and Dave, and to enjoy some insights into one of the most fascinating and ground-breaking TV series of the past quarter century.

“The conference looks closely at Twin Peaks’ significant influence and its lasting appeal but also serves as a showcase for the expanding field of research within film and television studies focusing on contemporary television drama.”

An Evening with Twin Peaks is open to the public and takes place on Thursday 21 May from 7.00-9.30pm at the Digital Performance Lab, University of Salford, MediaCityUK, M50 2HE.

Tickets for the event cost £15.00 and are available from the online University of Salford shop. Further details are available by emailing am-engagement@salford.ac.uk.
