Afternoon Tea has enjoyed something of a revival in Manchester with a wide variety of venues offering this centuries old tradition. For those who want to experience something really special then look no further than The Lounge at Manchester House where Chef/Proprietor, Aiden Byrne, is always looking to introduce fresh new flavours.

Each element of his latest, colonial inspired, afternoon tea aims to tell a story and offers a short but sweet gastronomic jaunt around a variety of countries.

The rose apple macaroon made with Southern Asian fruit is more guava than apple. The fruit has such a distinctive flavour and aroma of roses and apples that there really is no sweeter name. A colonial inspired afternoon tea wouldn’t be complete without a Coronation chicken sandwich which was served at the Queen’s Coronation lunch in 1953 and kept the name thereafter.

So, when you’re not distracted by the endlessly fascinating views from The Lounge, with the floor to ceiling panorama of Manchester from all vantage points, your palate is sure to be delighted by the variety of inventive, delicately flavoured sweet and savoury treats.
