While the movers and shakers in Manchester were watching models parading up and town in the Northern Quarter,About Manchester was across the City in the shadow of the City’s latest addition to the up and coming culture of the North West, the Aviva Arena where another icon of Manchester Johnny Marr was playing

It was not music that we were heading for though, it was the newly opened Fenix Restaurant Graced also a couple of weeks ago by the movers and shakers on its opening night

Spread over two floors, diners get to taste the vast array of cocktails on the ground floor with ambient music playing in the background

The bar with its decor set up to look like a Greek Taverna is dominated at one end by a large olive tree which attracted much attention through the evening with women in various states of dress posting pictures to Instagram

The cocktails were to say the least different, mine based on the hero Hercules, arriving in a large horse shaped glass. What do I do with this I asked, just pour it in the glass said the obliging server.

The cocktail menu features 16 unique creations from Will Meredith, Group Head of Bars, celebrating the four elements that shape the mystical Greek Isles; Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

Upstairs is where we were heading to sample the food and sample is the best way to put it with a vast array of dishes, sharing menus and al a carte to choose from

Thank goodness for the help of a wonderful waiter who talked us through the various options and recommended a couple of wines to go with the meal.

For those who have yet to hear of the restaurant, it comes from the same people behind Tattu and as the press release says aims to bring high-end contemporary Greek-Mediterranean food and culture from Mykonos into Spinningfields

Executive Head Chef, Ippokratis Anagnostelis, has built his reputation across a wealth of fine dining establishments in Athens and Mykonos

It was buzzing for a Thursday night, two open kitchens separated by dining tables. If I had one complaint, and it’s an age thing by the way, then it was the level of noise, which at times made it difficult to understand what was being said by the staff

The food, which was served at just the right pace was faultless. We have a very small sample it has to be said, delicious and moist pitta breads with Hummus, a beatroot salad,Tempura Halloumi Cheese, and an excellent Artichoke Risotto

But it was a small sample, and I would recommend anyone going there to meticulously study the menu options which range across sea bass, lobster spaghetti, Wagyu, the list goes on and I doubt whether you would have much trouble finding something you would like to try and we would heartily recommend it

Now what was the thing with that olive tree?
