El Gato Negro is raising a glass to celebrate International Sherry Week (8th – 14th October). To celebrate, they’ll be introducing the perfect drink and dish pairings.
Celebrating the fifth year of the annual event, El Gato Negro has compiled a trio of combinations, pairing three of the restaurant’s best dishes, with three of the most delicious sherry wines.
Equipo Navazos, ‘I Think’ Manzanilla En Rama 2017 (37.5cl)
A wonderful Manzanilla boasting fresh aromatics, a signature salty tang, plenty of acidity and a twist of lemon, ‘En Rama’ is bottled after the slightest filtration process. The fresh yet salty note of the sherry pairs perfectly with seafood dishes.
El Gato Negro recommends pairing this with… Seafood Rice with prawns, clams, hake and chorizo
Price: £6 for a glass / £28 for a bottle
Emilio Lustau Oloroso Añada 1997, Jerez (50cl)
The vintange Oloroso is full flavoured and smooth, providing sweetness combined with a fresh finish, aged in a cask to gain its full-bodied structure. This medium to sweet sherry has notes of orange blossom and raisins, and is ideal alongside red meat and game.
El Gato Negro recommends pairing this with… Onglet Steak with Patatas a lo Pobre
Price: £8 for a glass / £55 for a bottle
Emilio Lustau ‘Los Arcos’ Solera Reserva Amontillado, Jerez (75cl)
Dry and rich, the Amontillado has undergone a two-stage ageing process to provide the delicious and delicate flavour, with smoky hints of wood. A lovely amber hue, this complex sherry is a perfect balance on the palette to match rich poultry dishes.
El Gato Negro recommends pairing this with… Chargrilled chicken thighs in rich and creamy Romesco Sauce
Price: £4.50 for a glass / £45 for a bottle
The above special pairings are just three of 12 unique sherries and dessert wines which can be enjoyed at El Gato Negro, available across all three floors of the restaurant.
