Do you work in an office where you are sitting at an office desk for many hours? You might feel like you will never be able to become truly healthy or fit while continuing to work an office job, but that is not the case. Simply drinking more water and taking regular breaks from your desk are just some quick and easy ways that you can become more healthy in your work routine. If you get a bit creative and follow the simple tips below, you can become a healthier person while you are busy doing your nine-to-five job.

1. Drink plenty of water

One of the most important ways to stay healthy during the day is by keeping yourself hydrated while you work by drinking plenty of water. Although you might need that cup of coffee in the morning, try drinking a few glasses of water during the day too. There are many easy ways to drink more water at work that you can incorporate into your routine such as keeping hydrating snacks like watermelon and strawberries at hand and taking a reusable water bottle with you to work. While drinking lots of water can mean you are going to the bathroom more frequently, it will be beneficial for you in the long run.

2. Use the stairs instead of the lift

Do you often take the lift when the stairs are right there? Sometimes it can be a hard habit to cut, especially if you are running late. However, taking the stairs instead of the lift can help you get in more of your daily steps into your routine. Taking the stairs when you are leaving work can also help stretch your legs, especially when you have been sitting at your desk for long periods of the day. If you struggle to exercise on a weekday, taking the stairs can help you stay active and help burn a few extra calories too.

3. Do some exercises at your desk

Are you looking for useful ways on how to stay fit at your office desk? If you have a deadline to meet and are just too busy to leave your desk during work, there are many ways that you can stay active at your desk instead. Stretches, chair dips, and leg raises are just some small activities that you could do when you have five minutes to spare. Desk exercises can help to improve your posture and stretch your body if you have been sitting still for a long period of time. Even though you might not be able to get away from your desk, there are still stretches and small exercises that can help keep your body moving.

4. Go for a short walk on your break

Whether you get a 15-minute break or a 30-minute break, make the most out of it by going for a short walk. If you need to eat on your break, you can always eat on the go or walk to a local shop where they sell healthy food. It can be all too easy to sit in the break room on a bench outside during your breaks. While it might not feel like much, taking a short walk on your break can get your body moving, help to reduce stress levels, and help improve your mental health too.

5. Keep the snacks to a minimum

When you are at work for long periods of time, it can be all too easy to snack while you are at your desk. Keeping biscuits, sweets, and chocolate on your desk or in your desk drawer can be all too tempting sometimes to help us pass the time. While it might be convenient, junk food won’t help in the long run and can make you feel sluggish and slow for the rest of the working day. It could be beneficial not to snack at all, or actually learn how you should be snacking at work instead. Keeping snacking to a minimum and eating healthy snacks like fruit and yogurt are just some ways that you can stay healthy while you are at work.
