A co-production between the Royal Exchange Theatre and the HighTide Festival opens a vibrant collection of home produced and visiting shows as part of the autumn/winter season in The Studio, at the Royal Exchange.
Brand-new productions from emerging writers and directors sit alongside productions from award-winning companies and artists creating a diverse, varied and thought-provoking season in The Studio.
Luke Norris’ Bruntwood prize winning play So Here we are explores the complex and fragile nature of life in a faded English seaside town.

Frankie’s dead. And no-one’s quite sure why. But the boys won’t talk about it. They can’t. There are some truths that men can’t share. When a young life is cut short, the four remaining members of a five-a-side team gather on a cold and empty beach to remember their friend. As the ice-cream van plays its high-pitched tunes these men try to cobble together their memories of Frankie but what do they really know, and what can they simply never say?

With the kaleidoscopic memories of Adventure Land flickering in the background, Norris’ beautifully compassionate and candidly funny play paints a portrait of male relationships and childhood friendship in Essex’s Southend.

Directed by the award-winning Artistic Director of HighTide Steven Atkinson in a co-production for the Royal Exchange and HighTide festival the play premieres at the Exchange on 5 September before transferring to HighTide from 10-20 Sept. The production returns to Manchester from 24 Sept – 10 Oct.
