Three men, aged 21, 22 and 23 and two women, aged 19 and 20, have been arrested on suspicion of assault after a man was stabbed in the early hours of this morning in Rochdale.

The forty two year old is in hospital in a stable condition r.

Further enquiries carried out by detectives have indicated that the victim was stabbed on Mere Street before he made his way onto Milkstone Road where he sought help.

There are currently scenes in place on Milkstone Road, Boundary Street, Castlemere Street and Mere Street.

Detective Sergeant Tim O’Callaghan, of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This was a vicious incident which has left a man needing surgery after being attacked in the street.

“We currently have five people in custody who have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and they will be questioned by police today.

“There are a number of scenes in place so local residents may notice an increased police presence and I would urge anyone who thinks they may have any information that can help to please approach one of our officers.”
