Gorton Philharmonic will perform its first ever Summer Proms Concert at Gorton Monastery this Sunday 12th July at 2.30pm.
Don’t miss your chance to see Juan Ortuño conduct the acclaimed Gorton Philharmonic Orchestra performing these much loved summer prom favourites in the stunning surroundings of the Great Nave at Gorton Monastery.
Highlights of the concert will include Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, English Folk Suite, Enigma Variations and many more uplifting musical treats.
Gorton Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1854, only 27 year after the death of Beethoven, when Tchaikovsky was a boy of 14 and 3 years before the birth of Edward Elgar. This makes it one of the oldest in the North West, pre-dating the Halle by three years and the building of the Grade II* listed Monastery by nine years.

With plans for the Summer Proms Concert to take place every July the orchestra will now perform two annual concerts at the Monastery each year. The Christmas Concert with Carols is always a sell out and draws visitors from all over Manchester and the region, it is hoped that the Summer Proms will do the same.

Elaine Griffiths, Chief Executive of The Monastery of St Francis & Gorton Trust said, “There is always a wonderful atmosphere when Gorton Philharmonic perform here. The Nave positively resonates with the inspiring music. We are delighted to be hosting this acclaimed orchestra again for what promises to be a memorable afternoon of entertainment.”p

Tickets are still available to buy from Gorton Philharmonic online at www.gortonphil.co.uk, or over the phone 0161 483 1699. They are also on sale over the phone from the Monastery 0161 223 3211 during normal office hours.
