STEVE Worrall couldn’t hide his disappointment at Belle Vue’s 43-47 loss to Peterborough but has vowed his side will bounce back against Premiership rivals King’s Lynn in two weeks’ time.

The BikeRight Aces came up against their toughest challenge at home to date as the Crendon Panthers drew on all of their experience and track craft to get the better of their hosts.

There was little, if anything, separating the two side for much of the evening, and it was only in the closing stages that the visitors managed to gain a foothold.

It all came down to yet another last-heat decider featuring Dan Bewley and Charles Wright with the weight of expectation on their shoulders for the home team.

But despite a valiant effort to join his team mate at the front, Wright was unable to hold off the Panthers pair of Michael Palm Toft and Bjarne Pedersen though he battled to the very end.

Skipper Stevie said: “I really do feel for Charles. He never once backed down and he came so close to getting that second spot in Heat 15, and he was understandably devastated to miss out.

“The same can be said for all of the boys. Everyone was putting in the effort tonight and we are all disappointed not to have anything to show for that effort.

“But full credit to Peterborough. They came here tonight in good form and rode exceptionally well so we can’t take anything away from them.

“Other results around the UK have worked in our favour, but none of us want to have to rely on others to do our job for us. We are more than capable of controlling our own fate.

“I strongly believe we can consolidate our place in the Play Offs on our own merit. There’s nothing we can do now about this result so we’ll have to take it on the chin and come back stronger.”

The BikeRight Aces are next in action at the National Speedway Stadium on August 23 against the King’s Lynn Stars after the British Champion is decided on August 16 in the British Final.

Tickets for all our remaining 2021 home fixtures are available, unrestricted, online at Bellevue-speedway.com and we encourage all our fans to buy online where possible.
