Work is about to start on the expansion of Millwood primary school to improve the education of children with special needs.
The £13 million project will create a new wing, and repairs will also be carried out on the roof and existing building.
Creating more capacity at Millwood is a priority element of the council’s plans to improve special needs provision in the borough. This would meet increasing demand in Bury, and would increase the number of children where their needs can be met locally within a Bury school.
Cabinet approved the plans last night, which means work can start on site on 4 August 2025, with the work completed by September 2026.
Millwood caters for 176 primary-aged pupils with a range of additional educational needs and disabilities. The school’s expansion will enable it to accommodate an additional 50 children.
