Jeff Lynne’s ELO concert at the Co-op Live in Manchester was cancelled just minutes before the band were due to take to the stage

Thousands of fans waiting for Jeff to take to the stage, were told the performance would not go ahead as planned due to ‘illness.’

The 77 year old had been battling with a broken hand which had left him unable to play the guitar at previous concerts following a car accident

Lynne’s Facebook page indicated that the cancellation was “due to illness,” adding, “Jeff is devastated he cannot perform this evening.”

During the previous night’s concert Lynne, looking noticeably weaker, ultimately sat in a chair during the last few songs. It appeared that he had difficulty singing “Mr. Blue Sky,” the evening’s final song
