For several years, Manchester has been voted as one of the top UK cities to live in. For those who haven’t visited the wonderful city, we’ve put together a short list of why Manchester is one of the best cities in the United Kingdom.

A Creative City

Manchester is known for being a rather large and important creative hub. The city is home to several prominent media organisations including the BBC and ITV. What’s more, many of the UK’s biggest creative agencies and companies reside in the city, making it increasingly attractive for many creatives. In short, there is a large creative industry in the city with plenty of opportunities for everyone.

Leisure and Entertainment

Manchester is a big city that offers plenty of activities. The city is home to a plethora of theatres, clubs, cinemas, and restaurants. It’s also got several glamorous casinos, for those who prefer real-life gambling over online casinos. If that’s not enough, the city is packed with gorgeous attractions including Manchester Cathedral, the Imperial War Museum, the Manchester Art Gallery, and the Manchester Museum. The fun doesn’t end there, however, as the city is home to the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, The Science and Industry Museum, and the Play Factore. There’s always plenty of things to do in Manchester, regardless of whether or not you’re a tourist or a long-term resident.

The Housing

Manchester is known for having affordable housing, compared to other cities like London. In fact, the city has launched initiatives such as the Silk Street project which offers residents affordable housing that is eco-friendly. Manchester’s affordable housing allows everyone to move to the city including young professionals, families, as well as students. There’s something for everyone!

Transport Links

One of the biggest benefits of living in Manchester is the transport links. You can travel across the city using the Metrolink trams which are available frequently, and it is regularly praised for its affordability and reliability. National rail services also run from outside Manchester to cities all over the UK including London, Liverpool, Leeds, and more. This means travelling around the UK is incredibly simple, particularly for people who need to move around for their job.

Higher Education

Finally, Manchester is home to three universities including the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Royal Northern College of Music. All universities receive excellent reviews and can all be found in the southern side of the city which forms one of Europe’s largest urban higher-education districts. This, combined with the city’s transport and affordable housing make Manchester great for prospective students.

These are just some of the reasons why Manchester is one of the best cities to live in, and there are plenty of other reasons to move there; it’s home to great food markets and restaurants and it’s incredibly safe. With this in mind, it’s easy to see why it’s constantly voted as one of the best UK cities.
