Veteran broadcaster John Stapleton has died at the age of 79 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The presenter featured widely on programmes including the BBC’s Watchdog and began his career at the Oldham Chronicle.
The broadcaster was a huge Manchester City fan and the club put out a statement earlier saying
“Manchester City are saddened to learn that John Stapleton has passed away at the age of 79.John was a passionate City supporter and a regular at the Etihad Stadium. He will be missed.Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Stapleton was also a fan of Diggle Football club who put out the following statement
“The club would like to offer their deepest condolences to the family of John Stapleton, who passed away peacefully in hospital aged 79 after his recent on going battle with Parkinson’s disease.
John, a born & bred Diggler, an avid supporter & sponsor for many years.”
