An investigation has been launched after vandals set fire to a bin which has sadly caused damage to the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) pitch in Chestnut Avenue, Cheadle

Sergeant Delaney from GMP Stockport district said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any mobile phone or CCTV footage of the incident, or in the moments leading up to it. No matter how small the information may seem, it may be vital to our investigation.

“I would encourage members of the public to report any acts of vandalism or anti-social behaviour that they witness to ensure that our parks and recreational areas are a safe and friendly place for families to enjoy.”

Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure Services, said: “Incidents like this cost the council a considerable amount of money to repair.

“Not only that, this act of vandalism now prevents youngsters and their families from enjoying the park.

“I am asking anyone with information to contact GMP and allow them to carry out their investigation.”

Members of the public with any information or details that could help officers are asked to call police on 0161 856 9647, quoting log number 71 of 28/11/23.
