Two car smashes in 24 hours on one East Manchester road have left a 78 year old man in hospital in a serious condition and two men in their twenties in a serious condition, one with life threatening injuries

The first smash on Edge Lane in Droylsden saw a 78-year-old man received serious injuries and was taken to hospital after being hit by a car. He remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the car, a 36-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving. He has since been released under investigation.

The second incident saw motorbike had collided with a car.

Two men, aged 22 and 23, sustained serious injuries and both were taken to hospital. One of the men is in a life-threatening condition.

Police Sergeant Andrew Page of Greater Manchester’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Two very serious incidents have taken place on this road in 24 hours, leaving three men with serious injuries, one of which is life threatening. Our specialist officers are supporting the families of the men affected by these incidents.

“We’re now investigating the events that led to these collisions, and the community will see an increased presence in the area. There will be a staffed ANPR car and extra traffic patrols present and monitoring, while our investigations continue.
