Two people have been arrested in connection with a carjacking incident that took place yesterday in BlackFriars in Salford.
The victim a woman parked her car outside the Nisa store on Black Friars. She reported seeing a 37‑year‑old woman outside the shop who she believed to be begging.
After entering the store, the victim purchased food for herself and then gave some to the woman outside.
She returned to her car, but as she got in, the same woman followed her into the vehicle. Moments later, a 54‑year‑old man in the area also entered the vehicle.
The victim drove around the corner and an altercation in the street followed, the offenders drove away in the victim’s vehicle.
Officers acting on the report located the car within minutes with the vehicle stopped in Manchester City Centre, and both suspects were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The man and woman both remain in custody for further questioning.
Detective Sergeant Dan Hayes from the Salford district said: “Intimidation, theft and assault have absolutely no place in our community, and we will not tolerate behaviour that puts innocent people at risk.
“This was a shocking and frightening incident for the victim, and the officer’s quick response ensured both suspects were located and arrested within minutes.
“We remain committed to protecting the public and will continue to take swift, decisive action against anyone who chooses to commit violent or threatening offences.”
