Three people have been arrested after a man was shot in the foot in New Moston this morning on Whitstable Road

A51-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening and he remains in a stable condition at this time.

Two men, aged 34 and 55, and a 53-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion assault. They remain in custody for questioning.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Claire Moss, of GMPs City of Manchester division, said: “Our investigation has progressed very quickly throughout the day following enquiries and we now have three people in custody who will be questioned by my team.

“I realise that this incident will undoubtedly cause concern among the local community, but I would like to reassure people that we are treating this as an isolated incident and have a dedicated team working hard to piece together the circumstances and establish exactly what happened this morning.

“In the coming days there will be an increased police presence in the local area and I would urge people with any issues or concerns to please speak with these officers who are there to provide help and support.
