As June’s heat record has once again been our region faces a second day under an amber heat warning with the threat of thunderstorms overnight with them being most likely between 2am and 7am on Friday morning
Yesterday the highest June temperature in the U.K. was recorded being 36.1°C in Gosport, Hampshire, the Met Office said.
That has now been broken with temperatures hitting 36.4 degrees at Yeovilton in Somerset this afternoon
This unprecedented heat surpasses the previous record of 35.6C, which had stood since 1976 and 1957.

“High temperatures are forecast today & throughout the week, with an amber weather warning – this means speed restrictions may be in place & your journey may take longer than usual.Carry water and avoid travelling when the sun is at its highest.”

Climate scientists suggests that climate change has made the current European heatwave 2°C – 4°C worse than it would have been under the same conditions in the second half of the 20th century.
“So when will the heatwave end? Originally it looked like Friday but now it will be Sunday when max temperatures return to the early-20s and fresher air arrives. Before then, there is the potential for some strong or severe thunderstorms breaking out.”says Oldham weather
