The continuing saga of the Godley Green planning application is to be re-considered at the meeting of the Tameside Council planning committee on the 18th March

The members of the committee back in January resolved to refuse the application against the Officers recommendation

A letter of complaint was received from the agent on behalf of the applicant and Made Partnership.

This set out alleged procedural concerns around the January Panel meeting and decision.

Following receipt of that complaint, the Local Planning Authority sought independent legal advice from Kings Counsel on the matters raised in the complaint letter.

Based on that advice, the Local Planning Authority considers that it is reasonably necessary and appropriate for the application to be re-considered at the March meeting of Panel.

The development aims to create around 2,150 new homes close to Hyde and Hattersley but Controversy surrounded the plans from an early stage with the site largely made up of unclassified green belt

Then the amended scheme was voted down at the Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel Planning committee in January with a lack of certainty over whether the two sections will be linked by a bridge and whether a health centre will be included said to be the main reasons

In response, A Tameside Council Spokesperson said:   “The decision not to approve the revised Godley Green outline planning application is of course very disappointing for the Council and our partners.

Tameside, like all local authorities is facing a housing crisis, and we cannot meet our housing needs by building on brownfield land alone. Godley Green therefore remains a key strategic site where we can meet our housing needs while increasing accessible green space and remains a designated site allocation in the Greater Manchester Places for Everyone Plan.

We remain committed to delivering the much-needed homes for future generations in the best possible way and we will now look together with our development partner, MADE, at options available to us to in light of the decision.”

And so we await the meeting in two weeks time
