An armed trio held a couple at knifepoint over Range Rover keys in Stockport last night.

Three masked men smashed through the rear patio doors to gain entry to the property on Newsham Road before threatening the owners with a sledgehammer and a knife whilst demanding cash and keys.

The victims, a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, refused to hand over their property.

The woman managed to escape to raise the alarm whilst the robbers proceeded to threaten the man with the knife.

The offenders then took the keys to steal the victims’ Range Rover, which was later recovered on St Lesmo Road at the Junction with Stockton Avenue in Edgeley following a collision with a number of parked cars.The victims weren’t injured.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Constable Matthew Tarr, of GMP’s Stockport Burglary Unit, said: “This was a horrific attack on an innocent couple who were having a relaxing evening in the comfort of their own home whilst their children slept upstairs. Home is the place you should feel safe.

“I am so thankful that no-one was injured as the actions of these men could have easily resulted in tragedy.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time or knows anything that could assist our investigation to please come forward.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who saw a light gold Range Rover or any other suspicious vehicles in the area last night. The smallest piece of information could help us catch the men responsible, so please get in touch.”
