This morning’s Sunday Timeshas revealed that 250 survivors of the Manchester Arena terror attack have launched a major legal action against MI5 for failing to stop the 2017 terror attack.

Twenty two people were killed in the attack and relatives of those who died are also part of the group that has lodged a complaint with the Investigatory Powers Tribunal, which considers complaints about the conduct of the intelligence services.

The judge-led Manchester Arena inquiry, set up in 2019, found that MI5 had missed a “significant” opportunity to take action that might have prevented the bombing. “ says the paper and there was was a realistic possibility that actionable intelligence could have been obtained which might have led to actions preventing the attack,”

MI5 will be required to provide the Investigatory Powers Tribunal with all the evidence it has about how preventable the bomb was. It is yet to set a date for any hearing, but it is expected to take place early next year.
