The country’s next prime minister will be Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss
Penny Mordaunt was voted out of the race for Tory leader as Sunak won the backing of 137 MPs and Truss received 113 votes while Mordaunt received 105 backers
Mordaunt, the international trade minister, said: “‘I pay tribute to anyone who puts themselves forward for such a demanding role. Politics isn’t easy. ‘It can be a divisive and difficult place. We must all now work together to unify our party and focus on the job.”
