Rishi Sunak has pledged to hike Britain’s defense spend to 2.5 percent of GDP by the end of the decade — an extra £75 billion over the next six years

Speaking alongside NATO’s Jens Stoltenberg on a visit to Warsaw Sunak warned that the West was in the most dangerous place since the Cold War.

The spending pledge he says will be ‘fully funded’ – with no increase in borrowing or debt and described the move as The biggest strengthening of our national defence for a generation.

“We can’t keep thinking America will pay any price or bear any burden if we are unwilling to make sacrifices for our own security” adding

As Churchill said in 1934, to urge the preparation of defense is not to assert the imminence of war. On the contrary, if war was imminent, preparations for defense would be too late,” Sunak said. “I believe we must do more to defend our country, our interests and our values.”
