Stockport is about to shine in a whole new way this February half term with AMAZE – a free, large-scale projection that brings local stories to life in the heart of the town centre. Presented by Stockroom, AMAZE is for anybody and everybody.

AMAZE is all about turning point moments – those decisions and experiences, big or small, that have shaped the lives of everyday Stopfordians. These stories will be transformed into a stunning visual experience on the iconic concrete screen of Merseyway car park, a much-loved backdrop to town-centre life for over 60 years.

Stockroom is a vibrant new community space in the heart of Stockport. Since opening in May 2025, it’s quickly become a favourite spot for learning, creativity, and connecting, with over 100,000 visits each month. Whether you want to explore, get creative, read a book, or simply catch up with friends, Stockroom is a welcoming place in the heart of Stockport, where anyone can drop in to explore, get creative, or simply relax.

Why it’s special

The projection is created in collaboration with internationally renowned Illuminos, who are experts in turning buildings and public spaces into immersive, unforgettable visual experiences, blending light, sound, and storytelling. Their work has lit up cities across the UK and beyond, and now Stockport will have its very own large-scale projection.

What makes AMAZE truly unique is that it’s built around the stories of local people, gathered in creative workshops with Stockport illustrator Molly O’Donoghue. The result is a projection that is visually spectacular, deeply personal, and rooted in the community.

Cllr Dan Oliver, the Cabinet Member responsible for Culture, said: “AMAZE is a celebration of the people of Stockport and the stories that make our community unique. It’s a chance for residents of all ages to come together, share in these moments, and enjoy a spectacular experience in the heart of our town centre. I hope everyone will take the opportunity to see Stockport in a new light and be part of this unforgettable event.”

Molly O’Donoghue, said: “As a creative born and bred in Stockport, it’s a dream to be part of the AMAZE creative team. I’ve loved diving into the stories of local residents, and helping bring their experiences to life in full colour. It genuinely feels like a joy and a privilege to be part of something so meaningful and I can’t wait to see the reactions when we light up Merseyway with Illuminos.”

AMAZE after hours

As part of the AMAZE projection, Stockroom will be open until 8pm on both days, for a modernist inspired FREE evening of creativity, soundtracked by DJ duo SHIMRISE. The cafe will be open too, so pop in, grab a brew and get stuck in!
