Keir Starmer’s director of strategy, Paul Ovenden, has quit No 10 after leaked messages revealed he made “inappropriate” sexually explicit comments about veteran Labour MP Diane Abbott while a party press officer in 2017.

In one email, he described a “shag, marry, kill” game where he and two colleagues discussed “going down on Diane” in graphic detail.

Ovenden was one of Starmer’s top aides and his departure will be a major blow to his political operation and was an ally to Morgan McSweeney

According to one source, “He is one of the best. None of us would be working in this building without him – and this country wouldn’t have had the chance for a better future without him.”
