A song written by two Manchester artists had been well reviewed in London.

We’re all plain civilians by Foden Williams and Ernest Hastings got tumultuous applause as it was performed.

We are all just plain civilians
Taken from the warehouse and the banks
Raw recruits are we
Still we mean to be
Ready to fill the gaps in the ranks were just plain civilians
but comrades staunch and true
Show your hearts not in our boots
Come and join the new recruits
For England wants you

It was reported that the great battle on the Aisne was drawing to a close and the Germans will be unable to resist for much longer

And it was announced that British airman had flown over Germany and destroyed a zeppelin factory.
