The Salford Rum Company is launching its first new release in a year THIS WEEK – and the strictly limited-edition run will celebrate the iconic drink of the Salford dockers – Rum & Black.

Fusing locally sourced blackcurrants with Salford’s celebrated and well-honed rum, the gorgeous new bottle is a must have for fans of the brand.  What’s more, for fans of Salford Rum in the Greater Manchester region, the new rum can be served warmed in a winter cocktail which is reminiscent of the northern childhood classic, Hot Vimto…

Co-founder Tommy Gaughan said: “When we launched Salford Rum in 2018, James and I would hand deliver orders around Salford and Greater Manchester.  Our early customers would tell us great stories of them, their parents and grandparents working on the docks. They’d tell us about the rums and other imports. Time and time again they’d mention one drink…Rum & Black.

“Typically a blend of rum with blackcurrant cordial or crème de cassis, Rum & Black was enjoyed down the working men’s clubs around the docks and throughout Salford.  This is our take on a classic. The drink of the dockworkers.”

Salford Rum’s premium spiced rums were created as a passionate celebration of the history, heritage and people of Salford Docks in Greater Manchester throughout the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. An era whereby the city’s Salford Docks grew to be the third largest port in the UK, the spirits take inspiration from the rums, fruits and spices from the Caribbean which were landing on British shores for the first time.

Encased in highly collectible ceramic bottles designed by the iconic illustrator and artist, Dave Draws, famous for his intricate maps of northern towns and cities, the result is something very special; much like the city where these rums were born – famous for its iconic music and cultural scene – character prevails, along with great taste and a versatility and confidence that pleases rum lovers and experts alike.

Crafted at The Dirty Old Town Distillery in small batches of just 300 bottles, and produced with locally sourced blackcurrants from The Promise Co, Rum & Black is a strictly limited release and launches 8pm, Thursday 26th October at salfordrum.com

Salford “Hot Vimto”

In a mug, add:

50ml Salford Rum & Black

15ml Sugar Syrup

Top with hot spiced orange juice warmed with two cloves and one star anise, and garnish with an orange wheel floating on the top

Black Spiced Mojito

In a Hi-Ball glass, add ice cubes and:

Fresh mint sprigs

30ml Salford Rum & Black

15ml Licor 43

15ml Lemon juice

15ml Cinnamon Syrup

Top with soda, and garnish with more mint sprigs and blackcurrants
