The BBC Philharmonic’s Salford Family Orchestra and Chorus is back, and is on the look-out for new members.
The orchestra and chorus will perform at the BBC in MediaCityUK Salford on Friday 3 June as part of BBC Music Day, and needs new members to help make some noise. They will be sharing the stage with members of the BBC Philharmonic plus some surprise guests from CBBC!

Anyone living, working or attending school or college in Salford can apply, and everyone is welcome from musical beginners to experienced players. The idea is to give mums, dads, siblings, grandparents, in fact everybody the chance to have fun making music together.

Martin Maris, the BBC Philharmonic’s Project Manager explains “Whatever instrument you play at whatever level, you will be welcome. And it doesn’t matter if you prefer to come on your own, that is fine too. Even If you don’t already play an instrument you can still join us by singing or playing percussion. Everyone, from eight years old to over 80, is welcome.”

The only rules are that anyone aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All members must be available for three workshops (on 17 April, 22 May, 29 May) and the day itself – Friday 3 June.

The BBC Philharmonic’s Salford Family Orchestra was formed in 2009. Since it was set up it has performed with the BBC Philharmonic at the BBC Proms in London, at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and even took part in a special concert for HRH The Queen when she officially opened the BBC in Salford.

An introductory session for the BBC Philharmonic’s Salford Family Orchestra and Chorus will take place on Sunday 17 April between 10am and 4pm at the BBC Philharmonic Studio at BBC MediaCityUK.
