The Restaurant chains Bella Italia and Café Rouge are the latest in the hospitality trade to appear on the brink of collapse after their parent Company Casual Dining Group filed an intent to appoint administrators for the businesses today.

The chains which employ 6,000 people across the UK and runs 255 outlets has been under pressure from landlords who are threatening legal action to wind up the company.

Casual Dining is owned by US private equity firm KKR, the former owner of pharmacy Boots and ticketing app Trainline.

After being hit by a squeeze on the casual dining sector Cafe Rouge was thought to be closing in on a return to profitability before the pandemic hit. It was also said to be planning to relaunch Bella Italia.
