Charity Prevent Breast Cancer has joined forces with Prostate Cancer UK to deliver critical health talks within the workplace.

The two charities – which represent the most common cancers in the UK – are encouraging business leaders to give employees the opportunity to learn more about cancer with ‘Health Hour’ talks.

The talks are designed to break down the taboos around cancer and are available to workplaces across the country.

Suitable for companies, community groups, schools and universities, Prevent Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer UK aim to promote the health of employees, communities, or students. For the first time ever, workplaces are able to book talks from both charities, which can be held back-to-back or separately.

The awareness talks are tailored to every organisation’s individual requirements, and generally cover who is at risk of developing the disease, signs and symptoms, causes, awareness on how to check yourself and what you should do if you have concerns.

As part of the talks, representatives from Prevent Breast Cancer also discuss the fundamental work of the charity, and how it operates to fund ground-breaking research into the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.

Nikki Barraclough, executive director at Prevent Breast Cancer, said, “We’ve had great success with our Health Hour over the last year, but we’ve seen an interest for joint awareness for both male and female colleagues.

We’ve built a relationship with Prostate Cancer UK, and it felt like the perfect fit, as we share the same passion for raising awareness and educating the public. We can’t wait to start delivering these talks face to face again.”

Heather Blake, Director of Support & Influencing at Prostate Cancer UK said, “These talks are a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the two most common cancers in men and women.

Whether online or face-to-face, we know that these talks can truly make a difference, and by working with Prevent Breast Cancer we can reach more people than ever with this life-saving information.”

In the past 12 months, the majority of Prevent Breast Cancer’s awareness talks have gone virtual, and the organisation has presented to thousands of people world-wide on behalf of many global businesses, as well as in person at school assemblies.

Lauren Boardman from investment management and financial planning company, Brewin Dolphin, said, “We always enjoy welcoming Prevent Breast Cancer to the Brewin Dolphin family whenever we can. Their dedication and enthusiasm are inspiring. Talking about cancer is hard, but they somehow manage to make it an approachable topic, and create an environment where people feel they can share their own experiences.

We always have a very high attendance at their talks and the overwhelming response is positive. We are so grateful to work with the Prevent Breast Cancer and look forward to offering our continued support.”

Breast and prostate cancer are the two most common cancers in the UK, with breast cancer the biggest cause of death for women between 35 – 49, and 47,500 men diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that’s 129 men every day.

Both charities are dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging prevention and early detection.
