Police rescued a 53 year old homeless male from a burning tent that had been deliberately set alight on Cross Street just after midnight this morning
The victim’s belongings were destroyed in the fire, leaving him vulnerable.
Fortunately, he sustained no visible injuries, thanks to the officers’ swift response. Officers have taken all appropriate safeguarding measures, liaising with social services to provide ongoing support to the male.
CCTV footage confirmed that the fire was started by another individual in the area. A man aged 51 has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody for questioning.
