Greater Manchester Police have refered themselves to the Independent Office for Police Complaints after an incident on Saturday night saw three men taken to hospital after their car was persued by police

Police spotted the Ford Eco Sport driving at speed around 11.20pm .

A short while later, the Ford was located after colliding with a railing  then further colliding with a tree on Lodge Street, Middleton.

Officers attended and three men have been detained and taken to hospital with serious injuries where they remain in a stable condition.  All have since been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

This incident has been referred to the IOPC in line with normal procedure.

Sergeant Matt Waggett, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision happened on a Saturday night and we are hopeful that there will have been a number of witnesses in the area who saw this car prior to or during the collision and may have dashcam footage.
