Swinton Square announces positive news, with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) revealing its investment plans for a new Jobcentre for the Swinton community and wider area.

Due to open in May this year, the Jobcentre will be housed in newly refurbished offices next to Asda at Swinton Square, providing a team of experienced work coaches to support local people impacted by the pandemic to find their next role, in a new COVID safe environment. With onsite parking and other local services on site, Swinton Square is in an ideal location to place the new Jobcentre.

Chris Doidge, centre manager at Swinton Square commented: “What great news for Swinton Square! The Jobcentre is a great addition to our family and will bring in new people who may not have previously visited the centre. We have a host of valuable services and friendly independent retailers for them to visit and explore when here, with great offers and great service. We look forward to welcoming them very soon.”

The investment will also bring new jobs for local people and much needed support to the regional economy. Swinton Square as a district centre has bucked the national downturn in footfall over the last year, proving that shopping local is what people currently prefer, wanting easy access to essential services, parking facilities and open air malls, with convenient ‘click and collect’ options available.

Minister for Employment, Mims Davies commented: “The Swinton Square site is one of 80 new temporary DWP Jobcentres in this first wave of sites opening around the country – bringing even more frontline support to jobseekers in communities across the UK as a part of our ‘Plan for Jobs’.

“The Jobcentre will also be the new workplace for some of Greater Manchester’s 785 new work coaches, helping more local people to find work and progress into new roles, as we push to build back better from the impact of this pandemic.”
