The fifth and final person who will help lead up to £100m of investment across five Manchester neighbourhoods has been announced.
Earlier this year Manchester was named as a city which would benefit from the Pride in Place investment programme. This would see up to £20m invested across five areas over the next 10 years – funding that would be shaped and driven by residents.
The five locations in Manchester that were chosen are:
Benchill South & Wythenshawe Central
Clayton Vale (parts of Clayton, Openshaw, Newton Heath & Miles Platting)
Gorton South (parts of Longsight, Gorton & Abbey Hey, Levenshulme)
Harpurhey South & Monsall (parts of Harpurhey, Moston, Crumpsall)
Moss Side West (parts of Moss Side and Whalley Range)
As part of this monumental investment project a recruitment drive was launched to select five ‘community chairs’ who would lead this programme in their local area.
The Council is now proud to announce that the chair for Moss Side West has been selected – Hassan Hassan.
Hassan, a 47-year-old long-standing Moss Side resident who is set to bring a wealth of experience and insight to the role of chair. Currently serving as the Managing Director of Eid in the Park, the Chief Operating Officer of the Alfurqan Group of Charities as well as an independent community volunteer, he has placed himself at the heart of his community now for years and is ready to transfer that experience into the Pride in Place programme.
Speaking about his new role, Hassan said: “I applied because I believe lasting neighbourhood change is achieved when residents are genuinely involved in shaping the future of their communities.
“Throughout my career I have worked alongside people from many different backgrounds, bringing together residents, community organisations and public services around shared goals. Manchester is one of the world’s most diverse cities, and I see this role as an opportunity to help ensure that everyone feels listened to, respected and able to contribute. I hope to support an open, collaborative and transparent approach that builds trust and delivers positive outcomes for local people.
