The Labour Party have easily held the City of Chester in the first by election since the Johnson and Truss resignations

Their candidate Samantha Dixon won with a majority of 10,974 increasing the Party’s share of the vote by nearly 12 per cent

The Tories came second but lost nearly 16 per cent of their vote since 2019 with the Lib Dems finishing third

The Tories suffered their worst result in the constituency since 1832 in terms of vote share-They had held the seat as recently as 2015.

Dixon said that she had won a “typically Conservative seat” and called for a general election, warning that Rishi Sunak was on “borrowed time.”
