London Korean Corn Dog legends Bunsik are opening a new site in Manchester later this summer. With three popular branches in London – Chinatown, Embankment and Camden – the corn dog connoisseurs are now making moves north with their first outpost in Manchester.

Occupying a 2,000 square foot site at Piccadilly Gardens, the new restaurant will offer an evolved menu of its London counterparts with a wider selection of its infamous sweet and savoury, chewy and crispy corn dogs.

Korean corn dogs are believed to have been around since the 1980s in Korea and have since gained notoriety in Taiwan, Japan, China, the US, and now, Manchester. But what is it? A Korean corn dog is made from either sausage, cheese, or a combination of the two; skewered, dipped in batter then rolled in breadcrumbs; topped with potato, diced French fries, crushed ramen noodles, or crispy rice before hitting the fryer and cooked to a perfect golden brown.

Championing this well-loved East Asian snack, Bunsik’s menu will feature all kinds of tasty and authentic options, such as: The Original Corn Dog (premium chicken sausage with crispy outside); Half and Half (a combination of chicken sausage and mozzarella cheese); The Potato Corn Dog (premium chicken sausage with potato cubes wrapped around); and The Beef Corn Dog (premium beef sausage with crispy outside).

Other menu highlights include: Kimbap (cooked rice, vegetables, fishcake, and meat rolled in gim – dried sheets of seaweed – and served in bite-sized slices); Ddukbokki (cylindrical rice cakes cooked in a spicy sauce); Korean Fried Chicken (tossed in a variety of sauces including sweet and spicy, honey garlic, and dakgangjeong); Cup Bap (rice, noodles, broccoli and chicken); and a variety of Korean chicken burgers.

The Bunsik team will also introduce a new dessert, Bingsu, available exclusively at the new Manchester site. Similar to ice cream, Bingsu is made from frozen cream or milk, and is a type of Korean shaved ice where a block of frozen milk or cream is grated or shaved using a knife to create a fluffy, snow-like dessert. Toppings range from chopped fruit and condensed milk to fruit syrup and red beans.

Fans of bubble tea will be able to order a selection of popular choices as well as a number of Bunsik house favourites, including Strawberry Bubble Tea, Chocolate Bubble Tea and Matcha Latte Bubble Tea. Bubble Tea – in its simplest form – features freshly brewed tea and milk, served hot, cool, or iced (most popularly the latter), with chewy tapioca bubbles providing a delicious mix of textures.

One of the country’s most innovative and successful street-food brands, Bunsik hopes to fit seamlessly into Manchester’s thriving culinary scene, bringing something new to the current offering.

Bunsik opens in late summer and will be available on Deliveroo. Keep an eye on Bunsik’s socials for further updates.
