Police are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Alkrington Woods in Middleton last week.

The assault happened between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday 14 June, the victim, who is in her 20s – was walking near to the entrance of the woods on Manchester Road.

A man grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her before she managed to fight him off and run away.

The offender is described as white, in his mid-20s, of skinny build, around 5ft 7ins tall and was wearing a black scarf over his mouth and nose.

He was also wearing a black hooded top with the hood up, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

Detective Constable Charlotte Humphreys, from GMP’s Middleton Borough, said: “This would have been a frightening attack and the victim has been extremely brave reporting it to police.

“Incidents of this nature understandably cause concern in the community and I want to assure residents that we have detectives working hard to catch the man responsible for this while officers will also be carrying out extra patrols in the area.

“No one should be scared to go about their daily life and we are offering this woman specialist support.
