Hatch has launched a competition to help nurture the next generation of independent retailers in Manchester

Hatch, Manchester’s award-winning food, drink and retail destination, has welcomed three new traders to its thriving neighbourhood – House of Habesha, Tailor2Fit and ASAP Coffee.

Over the past three years House of Habesha have established themselves as firm favourites on the Manchester food scene through pop-ups, markets and festivals. This authentic Eritrean and Ethiopian soul food spot, combining culture and a healthy hearty cooking into one platter, is now bringing the taste of East Africa to Oxford Road. The new Hatch menu showcases incredible East African flavours, with seven vegan dishes alongside vegetarian and meat based dishes, including Shiro (a spiced chickpea stew) and Kulwa Seida (a lamb stew with Habesha spices) , all served with a traditional freshly made Injera bread, a flat spongy sourdough bread made from a grain called ‘teff’ or with basmati rice. There’s also dishes with a Habesha twist –  a fusion between Eritrean Ethiopian food and British American.

Samson Yitbareck from House of Habesha says: “I grew up eating my Godmother’s delicious homemade food and she is my biggest inspiration. We are super excited to now be bringing this Authentic Eritrean and Ethiopian Cuisine to Hatch. Our menu consists of the best soul food, comprising our favourite dishes that we know everyone will love. The food scene is thriving in Manchester and Hatch is the perfect place to help put Eritrean and Ethiopian food firmly on the map.”

ASAP Coffee is now serving the best coffee this side of the Mancunian Way across two floors including a terrace with great views down Oxford Road. The ‘stay in’ and ‘take away’ menus include coffee from around the world, made using a variety of brewing methods from espresso to filter coffee with V60 and Aeropress. They also have a range of teas, hot chocolate, chai and juices alongside seasonal sweet treats, sandwiches and toasties. The house espresso and filter options are sourced from Blossom Roasters, a local Manchester roaster that supplies the ethical coffees from around the world. Coffee aficionados will also be able to sample guest coffees from ASAP’s favourite UK and European roasters.

They will also be showcasing new art created by local artists as well as hosting a range of workshops including coffee and crafts, live music and comedy nights.

Tailor2Fit gives Hatch customers the opportunity to reduce clothing waste by offering clothing, leather and bag alterations and repairs, as well as a dry cleaning service. This is the team’s first foray into Manchester city centre with a successful shop in Sale.
