Tour de Manc in association with main sponsor David Lloyd Clubs North West has announced the return of Tour de Manc Sportive on 6th May 2018 for the third year.

This is the toughest challenge in the Tour de Manc’s events programme and has two distance options, the Full-Manc – over 105 miles for experienced riders and the Half-Manc – 100km aimed at fit, occasional riders. In parallel with the Sportive, there is an Every-Manc ride for disabled riders.

The events promise to be bursting with fun, challenge and Mancunian spirit. With everything from bespoke ales, by award winning Brightside Brewery, to bespoke jerseys, designed by the Manchester Fashion Institute – Tour de Manc Sportive 2018 promises to be a real Manc cycling festival and riders will be ‘mad fer it’.

For riders wanting a very tough challenge, the Full-Manc is more than 100 miles encompassing all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester. Its carefully plotted route includes steep climbs which take in panoramic views of the whole of Manchester, offset by some enjoyable downhill sections. It is specifically designed as a real test for experienced cyclists.

The Half-Manc covers 100km, still a challenge for most, whilst maintaining all Tour de Manc’s signature fun. This course is a more attractive prospect for fit but less seasoned cyclists, or those determined to embrace a new challenge this year.

Tour de Manc Sportive 2018 also welcomes disabled and paracyclists in the Every-Manc ride. For those riders not capable of riding on open roads, there is a closed road section where these riders can test themselves. The Every-Manc uses the same start and finish point as the Full-Manc and Half-Manc rides and the participants get the opportunity to enjoy this epic event

Tour de Manc uses cycling as a force for good in Greater Manchester, encouraging local people to get active while raising funds for great charities

Tony Rubins, one of the organisers says: “We have no employees and everyone are here volunteers, and that includes me. This allows us to raise surpluses directly from the income we generate and we give every penny to our registered headline charities. Our three headline charities support the Greater Manchester homeless, haematology cancer patients at the Christie Hospital and a wide range of community projects. There’s more information on our headline charities to be found on our website. However, as well as the direct donations we make, our fantastic riders raise a huge amount for their own chosen charities through their personal sponsorships. Last year our riders helped 27 registered charities, raising many thousands of pounds for them.”

Tour de Manc’s headline sponsor for 2018 is David Lloyd Manchester North Club – a new venue in David Lloyd’s national network of clubs.  Ian Shoreman, its General Manager, says: “We are thrilled to be hosts and main sponsors for this fantastic event. This event ticks all the boxes for us as a club. It brings together cyclists of all abilities, young and old, to challenge themselves and their fitness whilst touring round our great city.”

Events on 6th May all begin at David Lloyd Manchester North Club, Bowlee near Middleton. Standard entry is £34.99. For more information and details for registration visit the Tour de Manc website: http://www.tourdemanc.co.uk/
