The Government is to give local communities stronger powers to block vape shops, bookmakers and fake barbers that are ruining high streets.

The new Community Secretary Steve Reed make the announcement in this morning’s Sunday Telegraph

Many commentators say that our high streets have become saturated with vape shops, bookmakers, and so-called ‘barbers’ that offer little value to the local community.

The businesses often displace traditional shops, undermine the character of our local centres, and make the area feel less welcoming for families.

In a wide ranging interview with the paper he said that Britain risks being pulled apart by inequality as he takes over from Angela Rayner

“We’ve got some parts, you know, some financiers in the heart of London who are doing very, very well, thank you very much.

“But you’ve got other parts of our country where whole towns, whole communities, feel derelict and ignored and forgotten. And we can’t have that, because a country that is that unequal is being pulled apart.”
