Parents looking for activities to keep their children entertained over Christmas, look no further as Explore Learning in Cheadle Hulme is opening its doors for a day of free English and maths workshops running from 10:30am to 5pm on 14th December 2019.

This winter, Explore Learning want to help children to unlock their imagination and discover the magic of numbers and words in their FREE Winter Workshops – ensuring that progress won’t stop at the end of term.

Mapped to the national curriculum, Explore Learning’s Winter Workshops are built to support all children, from the reluctant learner to the knowledge seeker, and tackle the areas children find most tricky in school. More than half (55%) of children struggle with blending and segmenting in their first two years of school. Telling the time is the second biggest area of difficulty in maths for primary school children and comprehension is a struggle for (56%) of children in primary school.

To encourage creativity and develop confidence in these areas, Explore Learning’s friendly team of tutors are leading a jam-packed day of inspiring workshops.

Explore Learning is an award-winning extra-tuition provider for children aged four to 14 that takes a unique and personalised approach to maths and English tuition. Mapped to the curriculum of England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland, Explore Learning believe confidence is the first step to success and want to nurture children to be fearless learners, enabling them to succeed in school and beyond!

Children receive tuition at a ratio of one tutor to six children, meaning they get the perfect balance of individual support and independent learning. Sessions easily fit into family routines as members can attend on a drop-in basis. Explore Learning believe confidence is the first step on a child’s journey to success.

The workshops are happening at Metropolitan House, Station Road, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 7AZ. The FREE sessions will cover a range of topics to support all children, including phonics, time telling, creative writing and word problems. All children in the local community who are not members are welcome, giving them the opportunity to visit the centre, make friends and enjoy some fun interactive workshops.

The workshops schedule and content is as follows:

10:30 – 11:30am Fun with Phonics (ages 4-6)

Children will explore the world of rhyming words, building their confidence with phonics and guiding them on a journey to becoming future poets and phonic pros!

12:00 – 13:00pm Telling the Time (ages 5-7)

Children will have help tackling the challenge of the big and little hand. We all know how tricky it can be to master this lifelong skill, so there’s no time like the present to start learning.

14:30 – 15:30pm Winter Wonderland (ages 8-11)

Children explore the winter wonderland, learning the difference between fact and opinion. Can they use their newfound knowledge to stop any arguments forming between some very opinionated animals?

16:00 – 17:00pm Word Problems (ages 8-11)

For many children maths can get a little more complicated as soon as it starts using lots of words. This workshop will help children tackle worded problems to become fearless problem solvers.

Charlotte Gater, Head of Curriculum at Explore Learning says: “Parents will rack their brains for fun and affordable activities to do over Christmas so we hope that we can offer families who’ve never been to see us before a place to bring their children where they know they are having fun while learning something new!  Our aim is to encourage children to love English and maths and to help build their confidence in class.”
